BIOGRAPHY
Tiffany W. Chang is a young drummer who was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. The daughter of a piano teacher, Tiffany began her studies in classical piano at the age of 3 and violin at the age of 5. Carrying on with these studies throughout childhood, Tiffany began experimenting with different modes of musical expression, studying voice, guitar, and even composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Since coming to New York, Tiffany has had the honor of studying with some of the top drum set players in the world, such as Billy Drummond, Dafnis Prieto, Tyshawn Sorey, and Tony Moreno. She has also studied improvisation with Grammy award-winning trumpeter/composer Brian Lynch, Ralph Alessi, Ralph Lalama, Dave Pietro, and Andy Milne. She has performed at such venues as the Blue Note Jazz Club, Madison Square Garden, Jazz Gallery, Cornelia St. Café, Rockwood Music Hall and 55 Bar.
However, it was the drums which eventually proved to be Tiffany’s true calling at age 14. Diverging from her classical background, she began lesson soon developed a passionate interest in jazz and creative improvisation and received a scholarship to continue her studies at New York University. An inquisitive player, Tiffany found herself drawn to the tradition of bebop as well as to the far reaches of the avant-garde.
